Why picnic ?

‘Picnic’ has somehow free and healthy impressions. Of course, sometimes it will stray to the direction of hedonism, but not of control and restriction. The picnic which held at the boundary of Austria and Hungary in 1989 is well known as the beginning of collapse of divide of east and west. This fact, that is, something soft, not something powerful, is succeed in acting upon the power, should not be forgotten.

We hope that our picnic for art which began in the city of Kyoto is the same. We continued to discuss each other with drinking and eating, at every place in Kyoto. At that time, we didn't have any boundaries to across, but from another point of view, we were always surrounded by something to do so. Did we feel any kind of control or restriction in art world ? We had no rule in our picnic, but we kept one thing in our mind ambiguously. That is, don’t talking about the way of something meaningful for surviving in the system in front of ourselves. Of course, sometimes our discussion would seem like irresponsible complaints of drunkards. Still, we want to say it is a noble picnic. Those words might be the words for crossing something, toward somewhere…

In our picnic, no music sounds. But, a small small baby who took part in our almost every picnic, was always peevish at everywhere. Probably our talk was similar to her cry. But if it were fact, this would give us the power. Because, always she had some complaints, tried to correct those, and appealed it.

The expression of “no picnic” is said to express difficulty of doing or acting. This difficulty might be contained also in the situation around contemporary art. So, picnic is necessary. Because, doing picnic is not "no picnic".
